I’d visit a dental office located in Laguna Niguel www.aestheticdentaldesigns.net called the office and explained to the office personal that I was just released from the Mission Hospital ER and I was suffering from servere tooth pain and was told that I needed a root canal from the ER Physician. I asked the receptionist over the phone if the dentist specialized in root canals and the office gal put me on hold, came back to the phone and stated yes that they specialized treating patients with root canals, she went on to say, if this is an emergency that I can be seen the same day.
When I arrived to the Dental office, the appearance of the office looked very exotic with a fancy construction build out something that reminded of a Star Trek movie. I’d notice the Dentist running around in the hall way making copies of documents while I was being entertained by his staff. I was called into a room 20 minutes from waiting in the lobby for X-rays. The technician asked where was I experiencing the most pain and she took X-rays of just three teeth and not the full mouth.
Within 35 minutes, the second gal who was the receptionist walked into the room. Before any treatments or X-ray explanations she begins a sentence with “She did not know what I could afford?” Apprehensively , she begin explaining the findings of the X-ray taken of the three teeth, however I could not understand what she was trying to convey because of her lack of experience reading X-rays. After not understanding the receptionist I’d demanded to speak to the dentist. The dentist finally walked into the room 25 minutes later with a nasty deposition and handed me a flyer of an African American boy who died of rotten teeth. I begin asking questions about the findings of the X-rays, and the dentist responded with a nasty smirk; his actions gave an impression as if he didn’t want to treat, or touch an African American.
He went on to explain the X-rays, and suggested that I should seek another dentist for general treatments and recommended that I should see a dentist that specialized in root canals. I’d asked the dentist for a prescription for pain the dentist in return begins to ask allot of unusual questions as if I was a street person who was a drug user. He hesitated to write the prescriptions and stated that he doesn’t get involved with giving patient prescriptions to medications. He continued to push the flyer in my face of the African American boy who died of rotten teeth because his mother could not afford dental insurance. The dentist went on to say that I would need a crown after the root canal and can be seen by any dentist! I begin asking the dentist about his fees concerning crowns, the dentist assumed because I was African American that I could not afford his dental services and printed an extra nominal fee of $2,200 per crown. His office charged me a consulting fee, close to $200 bucks for No treatment and phony Xrays.
Racism in Orange County in the Dental Practices?
well they sound very unprofessional and would be wise to not go back to them fools, but why would you goto an ER for tooth pain in the first place. hmm
Reply:Oh I am so sorry this happened to you. Remember you live in OC and as you know we are known for being "sue-happy" but this is a definite case for a law suit. I cannot believe this dentist would act in such an unprofessional manner %26amp; to top that, I don't understand why you paid him the $200--I would have walked out. You should definitely demand your money back and take this to the medical board he can get in some serious trouble by being discriminatory. He was completely out of line %26amp; you did not deserve this treatment at all.
I really hope that you pursue this and take action, remember if this happened to you then it is going to happen to others as well. You can be the first to put a stop to it. Age, race, color discrimination is illegal in any field, and that most definitely includes dentistry.

Please advise/information on what to do and what will happen.................?
I have not looked after my teeth very well at all and feel that is one of my biggest regrets in life. I am only 16, my teeth are crammed into my mouth, they are not straight, and a couple are rotten. I certainly intend to go to the dentists very soon. I understand the rotten teeth will be removed, however will it be possible to have braces after to solve the angle of my teeth? or will i have to wait for the teeth to move naturally first? lastly, could i be refused by an orthodontist?
Please advise/information on what to do and what will happen.................?
I would definitely consult a dentist on your options. Braces should be able to help with straightening your teeth after you've had some taken out. But definitely go see a dentist to have a full exam. They should be able to better advise you on this.

Should I say something to her?
The other day, There this thing going on at the library, I have a friend who has been looking for free stuff to do with her son this summer so I invited them to go with us to the library. We were getting ready to leave and I was standing there talking to her before we left ( she drove her own car ) and we heard her son telling my daughter that she had rotten teeth ( must have been the lighting because my daughter has perfectly healthy clean teeth ) then started calling her rotten tooth. I could tell that she was really embarassed so I went over and told her in front of him that her teeth were not rotten and that she has a beautiful smile and while i was talking to my daughter I was expecting my friend to say something to her son and she didn't, I was so POed. Should I bring this up when I talk to her next? and if so what should I say?

Have her look at pictures of clean teeth and some of rotten teeth...ask her which set of teeth hers looks more like. Then tell her the boy was probably picking on her because he's got a crush on her and that's what some boys do with girls they like (punch them in the arm, make fun of them, dip their pigtails in an inkwell, etc.)
Reply:Just let it go. Kids will be kids. If it continues I would say something. Just remember, sometimes parents think that there children are perfect. So this could easily cause conflict between you and your friend if you said something. So just choose your words carefully.

I would just tell her that it really bothered you that she didn't say anything to him especially when your daughter's feelings are being hurt. Shame on the mother for not letting her son know it was a rude comment to make. Personally, yes I would say something to the mother. "I just wanted to let you know, that comment your son said really hurt my daughters feelings, and since it was said, she has been really shy with showing her teeth" If she has any common sense, she should say sorry. Who thinks thats parents/carers should be to blame for small kids rotten teeth . I know 2 kids both under 8 who had to have all teeth removed as they were all rotten . Who`s to blame ? It angers me to see children with bad teeth .... I mean small kids maybe 8 %26amp; under , the dentist reckons kids 8+ are able to clean their own teeth satisfactoraly . Don`t get me wrong even my kids have a filling but i mean really bad teeth and small kids need someone to keep them right and even help with brushing .I know this will opena can of worms as someone will mention may mention junk food etc but no matter what u eat as long as the teeth are brushed properly 2-3 times daily they should remain strong healthy teeth .

The excuses were "he's only four" or "well I'm scared of the dentist, so I'm not taking her". I asked the dental nurse when to take my son, and she said as soon as they get a tooth. this also helps them overcome fear if they go from an early age. I don't have a problem taking my boys to the dentist ( aged 9 %26amp; 6) and they know they have to brush twice a day. it aint rocket science.

So were my parents to blame for taking me to the doctor to get the antibiotics for my ear infections so that I didn't loose my hearing or worse die from an infection? My eldest is 7 and it is about a 60/40 split when I brush them and he brushes himself. If he got a cavity then I would blame myself. He obviously has to learn to do it himself and practice makes perfect, but until the day he can brush and then take a disclosing tablet that shows up no remaining plaque then I will continue on as I do.

They can also tell if the child has a genetic abnormality which causes the teeth to be weaker than normal. They can also tell if the nature of the tooth problem is due to decalcification. They can also tell if antibiotics are to blame. Each problem creates different symptoms and different issues within the teeth and gums. Any experienced dentist can tell the difference.
Brushing and flossing every day is a must. Parents that fail to teach and enforce this should be held responsible for their children's excessively rotten teeth. Now, there's a difference between needing a filling, and needing endodontial work, periodontal work, crowns, etc at a young age due to decay. Cavities happen.
Trauma to the teeth are another story. My two front teeth required endodontal work and crowns after they were broken when I was tripped at a skating rink. These things happen and are at no direct fault of the parent. We can't entirely shelter children away from ever damaging their teeth.
What you eat has little bearing on your teeth as long as you brush, floss, and get in for regular cleanings.

Trauma to the teeth are another story. My two front teeth required endodontal work and crowns after they were broken when I was tripped at a skating rink. These things happen and are at no direct fault of the parent. We can't entirely shelter children away from ever damaging their teeth.
What you eat has little bearing on your teeth as long as you brush, floss, and get in for regular cleanings.

I dont even know if it some kind of secretin but it tastes nasty. it coming from my back bottom tooth just one is like that. it tastes really nasty. tastes like bad breathe or like something rotten. I have no idea what it is. this seemed like it heeled in a different way because there wasnt really a whole. they probably just cut my gums and stitched it back together. i cant see it. i can just taste it. my other 3 holes are doing fine and none of this occured in them.

I have heard that a rotten tooth or rotting tooth can cause certain other physical problems. Are they detectable through blood tests and what would you look for? I have heard of a gentleman who had several rotting wisdom teeth whose blood pressure went up and he had no indication of high white blood cell count on a blood test indicating that he was fighting an infection. Is there a correlation? I'm stumped.

I've just been told that my dog has one bad tooth, up the top at the left. I'm bemused by this, because his teeth look to be in healthy order at the front, and he has always had a good quality diet, and is never allowed to eat crap. In fairness, I've never actually brushed his teeth, because I didn't think I had to during the first year (because they lose their teeth anyway)...can someone shed some light on this!? Is it a sign of something more sinister?! Or is it usual to have one rotten tooth and for the others to be fine!?
He is 12 months old and is a German Shepherd.

They get dirty and will start to rot. You should take him to a vet and see if they recommend you to get his teeth cleaned. That's what we did with my dog. It can be expensive but it prevents anymore problems! So brush his teeth at least once a day using a regular toothbrush and dog toothpaste. Ask you vet too!

They have to put her out and descale them but she never eats sweets etc. They are always badly stained though, from what we don't know. Tooth problems!?
Today my mouth was killing me i looked inside and saw a row of horrible cavities on the upper right side of my mouth, my one tooth is almost half gone from it, it never hurt before, i didn't even know i had it! I'm wondering why the dentist didn't see it when i was there last month! What do i do, I'm kind of embarrased to go to the dentist with rotten teeth! I just don't know how he could have missed such a major major problem! My tooth is really bad!!

Tooth Enamel Damage?
I need someone in dentestry to answer my question:
I am an alcoholic (the past 7 years) now I hardly ever puke probablly only once a month, my question is how often does someone have to vomit in order to damage they're teeth and how can I minimize the damage... please don't give me a lecture about my drinking cause that isn't going to stop, I've been to rehab and tried to quit several times to no avail.

First of all, no lecturing on your addiction, but I do wish you well in your endeavor to overcome it. As far as vomiting damaging your enamel, it would have to be on a regular basis, more than it sounds like you are doing. You might look in the dental isle for the new toothpaste that strengthen your enamel, all the brands carry their own version, just read the boxes. Whitening agents dont damage your teeth but they can cause sensitivity which again can be controlled with sensitive toothpaste or fluoride rinses.

I am an alcoholic (the past 7 years) now I hardly ever puke probablly only once a month, my question is how often does someone have to vomit in order to damage they're teeth and how can I minimize the damage... please don't give me a lecture about my drinking cause that isn't going to stop, I've been to rehab and tried to quit several times to no avail.

First of all, no lecturing on your addiction, but I do wish you well in your endeavor to overcome it. As far as vomiting damaging your enamel, it would have to be on a regular basis, more than it sounds like you are doing. You might look in the dental isle for the new toothpaste that strengthen your enamel, all the brands carry their own version, just read the boxes. Whitening agents dont damage your teeth but they can cause sensitivity which again can be controlled with sensitive toothpaste or fluoride rinses.

My son found out today at the dentist he has 2 rotten teeth. One they want to pull because they said he will be losing it soon anyway (they are both baby teeth) and the other they want to do a filling because they say its a back tooth that he wont be losing for a few years. They want to use nitrous oxide also.
I have good teeth and so does my older child so Im unfamilar with this. He's already nine why wouldnt they pull both? My daughter finished her braces at age 12. So why would they say that one tooth will be a few more years? And Ive never had nitrous just wondering what thats like also.
This office is very nice and swanky. I know they didnt get like that by not charging for it! My portion for this work will be $95. So I want to be sure Im doing the right thing!

The reason they are recommending that his molar tooth is filled and not extracted is because if they remove his molar, his other baby teeth will move over time and bridge the gap, leaving no room for his permanent molar to come through in its place, meaning crowded teeth and costly orthodontics down the track. ( Very odd that your daughter finished her braces at 12, they aren't usually placed until then!! Braces are more often than not placed when ALL of the permanent teeth are present except for special circumstances) If he was to have his baby molar removed now he would need something called a "Space maintainer" fitted which is an orthodontic appliance to maintain a space until he gets older (the adult molars come through at 12, 14 and 18-25). Also a costly option.
Nitrous oxide is a good thing for kids who haven't had any or very little treatment, especially if they are having teeth removed. it makes the appointment alot easier to cope with, meaning that future appointments will be less of an anxiety issue as he gets older. You may like him to go without, but it's ultimately a matter of his initial anxiety level and whether you believe he is okay without it. Depends on the individual! Hope this helps!

Reply:I have 23yrs in the dental field and it sounds like they are pretty honest with you. My sister took my nephew to a pedodontist (childs dentis) and they gave her a list of work he needed done. Needless to say, he didn't need half the work and on one tooth that was ready to come out they wanted to put a stainless steel crown on it just for the $$. Kids do not lose their back teeth until they are teenagers so doing a filling is the right thing to do. As for the Nitrous Oxide, it is very safe, I even use it when I get dental work done. It just relaxes you and when the work is done you go home feeling normal, there are no side effects. It sounds like your dentist is very legit.

Mom, you will have to be dilligent until he's grown! But of course, make sure he brushes, etc. which I'm sure you do (as much as you can with a 9 yo boy!). Use a flouride swish every nite. I keep having the same dream over the last few years. I am pulling my own teeth out and spitting them out.?
Sometimes I just pull them straight out other times I have to wiggle them out. Sometimes they are rotten and other times they are ok. Any ideas what this means. I vist the dentist regular and although I don't have the strongest teeth they all look ok.

it really depends on what your teeth symbolise to you, how precious are they to you, and do you in your wakeing life really care about them.
This would then indicate that by pulling them out you are causeing pain/happines/anxiety to yourself, and this could mean your dream is your minds way of reacting to the life you are living and how you really feel about it. If it makes you subconciously happy/anxious..etc as this could be what your subconcious mind is attempting to converse to your wakeing mind.
Its then up to you if you choose to listen and correct things for the better, or leave things alone, I cannot say as I dont know exactly what the interpretation could mean for you but if you leave things as they are and dont react to the dream you are likely to have the same dream reoccur.

I have a dental bridge for my upper row of front teeth.. Should there be a gap between my gums and the bridge?
About a year ago, I had an accident that resulted in the loss of 4 of my upper front teeth.. The dentist pulled the broken ones and installed a 6 tooth long bridge that attached itself to both of my canines. I have a metal plate underneath, and the bridge is permanent (at least for ten years or so), but there appears to be a gap of space between the bridge and my upper gums. Should this be there?... Shouldn't the bridge be pushed all the way up to the gum to hide any spacing in between?... It looks horrible when I smile because of the blackness from the gap... makes my mouth look somewhat rotten to those who do not know that what they are seeing is a gap between the bridge and gums. The first time my dentist was to install the bridge, it turned out that the lab has made it in the incorrect size, so I had to come back... he seemed skiddish upon installing the second one, I think he knew it didn't fit correctly, but installed it anyway to save time and money for himself. What can I do?

Kitten has 2 missing adult teeth?
My kitten's (6 months old) has 2 missing adult teeth according to his vet. I am taking him in for x-rays on Tuesday to find out if they are perhaps still up in the gum. What are some other possible reasons why they would not be there? Have you experienced this before?
My kitten is an indoor kitty who is my only pet. He is spoiled rotten so it is not possibly that he got into a fight or anything.

I think my teeth are moving around in my mouth! not suddenly but more of a gradual process! my front tooth is clicking and i can just wiggle it back and forth! it is a weird feeling. should this happen? and no, my gums are not rotten, i dont have scurvy.. i have good oral hygiene etc. etc.

Reply:I had this problem many years ago. My teeth were loose and I went to a Dr. Snow who was practicing a new idea of Dr. Keyes of Washington DC. It turned out not to be new really, since it was something my mother told me to do when I was a kid. It was simply to brush my teeth with baking soda and salt, but now you added peroxide to mixture. Also you would use this mixture in one of those water floss gadgets to aerate between the gums.
The peroxide was to kill germs and because it bubbles it removes the germs out of the crevices of the teeth and gums, the baking soda helps whiten and the salt toughens and kills germs and the gums. I used this idea and my gums strenghten and to this day, I don't have a problem with loose teeth.
So though it seems like a simple solution to the problem it works, believe me and worth your trying. Sometimes the old methods still work better than your "new improved" ones.
In fact my dentist showed me how many new tooth pastes incorporate the salt and baking soda ingredients and that is what works and the other ingredients are just a waste and add to the expense of the product.

I thought I was doing an ok job of taking care of my teeth, but I guess not. Finally my teeth got so loose I actually lost a couple of my front teeth. When I went to the dentist he said I had advanced PD, which I didn't even know I had. My teeth and gums looked ok to me. Anyways, I ended up having all of my teeth pulled last year and I'm only 16. Better get it checked out while you still have teeth. Maybe they can do something...I don't know what but it's probly worth a shot.
Reply:teeth move. sometimes weather will do this to mine. do you grind your teeth at night? that could be a big problem. if so, just ask the dentist for a bite guard to wear when u sleep. maybe bring this to his/her attention next time you go in and see what they say! good luck! :-)

My maltese has two rows of teeth. Some of them are her baby teeths that never came out. It makes her breaths?
stinks. They are somewhat wobbly but since she doesnt like to chew on any toys and treats they arent falling off. Her teeths are crooked and like i said her breath smells bad!! Like rotten fish. Its unbearable. My question is can it be possible for me to take her teeth out by myself? Or do i need to take her to the vet to have it done. Or should i just let if falls off by itselfs? She will be one year next month and their not falling out.

my poodle x has terrible breath to. it can be fixed if you brush her teeth every day. gum disease is really bad and can lead to heart problems take her to the vets for her check up and you can ask the vet then!

Reply:if you have any problems with your pet, you should definitely go to the vet, since they are professionals and they know what they're doing. the cause of the bad smell should be because of the tartar buildup in her teeth, to alleviate that you could brush them for her. i would wait a bit longer and see if they come out on their own and encourage her to eat treats and to chew on toys and see if that helps with the process, so that they will fall out naturally and you won't have to intervene.

Reply:if you have any problems with your pet, you should definitely go to the vet, since they are professionals and they know what they're doing. the cause of the bad smell should be because of the tartar buildup in her teeth, to alleviate that you could brush them for her. i would wait a bit longer and see if they come out on their own and encourage her to eat treats and to chew on toys and see if that helps with the process, so that they will fall out naturally and you won't have to intervene.
Reply:If she isn't already spayed, the vet can remove them at the time she is spayed, and it will cost far less.
They NEED to be removed.

Reply:take her to the vets if ur really worried u dont want to give her an infection but if shes only one give her time to grow n let them fall out them selves it may not even b the teeth that are causing the bad breath look at wot ur feeding her. i have a maltese to n his teeth all fell out on there own but he likes chewing bones n playing with his toys maybe try her on chicken necks there really good for her teeth
