My husband has had a rotten tooth since he joined the army (in 2002) he went to the army dentist but they just filled it, well now its starting to get alot worse, it has rotted so much the filing has fallen out and its just to the height of his gums, well now his ear is starting to hurt, and his gum is, not the actual tooth he can tap it and everything but it doesn't hurt. But he cant sleep as soon as he lays down it hurts, the only soulition he has found is to drink cold water (it has been well over 100 glasses in the last two nights) he knows its not good to drink that much but he can't find any other soultion, we don't have the money to go to a dentist, so if we were to pull it ourselfs (the strongest pain reliver is my 500 mg vicodin) what would you say to do?? we do have alot of beer he could drink, but we dont want to do that, also what tips do you have to help it stop hurting him so bad, we cant even sleep at night, because i am too worried to sleep because he is so sore.
Badly rotten tooth, more details inside?
Well, he needs to go back to the dentist to get that tooth pulled. For temporary solution, you better rinse his mouth out with tepid, salty water every hour. Just some warm water with a half teaspoon of salt. Gargle it for 2-3 minutes and spit out. Don't swallow! Go to a 24 hour drug store, and buy some orajel extra strength gel. That should numb the pain and probably his whole face. Take some vicodin as well but please don't overdose. Take one every two to four hours. He really should check into his TMC and see a medic so he can get a refer to the Army dentist right away. Do not drink beer! It can cause massive infection. Also there is a repair kit right near the orajel. You can try to fill it in again and use that numbing agent. It works alot like lidocaine. Good Luck!
Reply:Hello,
It really is not a good idea to pull it yourself.
The tooth is like the leaves to the plant, we can see this however it is the roots that is causing the pain. The roots that we can not see.
Plus I have done this before, and the roots were my problem. After many surgeries later (and a good chunk of change) I have learned the hard way. Do not pull your own teeth.
Go back to the dentist.
ADD;
Well if you do pull it I was told it takes 2 weeks for the roots to die. So he will have to put up with the roots dying and the infection. Do not swallow the infected matter, it can make him sicker then a dog.
Isn't there anywhere he can go where they will do this for him. Low cost clinic or something?
Do not put a heating pad on it as well. He may have tried this and it looks like someone punched me in the face. I had problems seeing and everything. The infection made my face blow up.
Lysine you can find it in the vitamins. It helps with the infection in the tooth. It is natural for infections in the head.
I sure wish him the best!!
Reply:If he was discharged under honorable conditions, he can go to a VA hospital. Just tell them you can't afford to go to the dentist. They only pull teeth. they don't do fillings or cosmetic stuff.
Reply:you can get tylenol5 or vicodin and you can only pull a tooth if its loose or otherwise a dentist has to crunch it and crack it up and give you"happy medicine" wich is very expsnsive i mean i had to pay 500 bucks and i have good insurance so tell him to take pills until you get insurance he needs it tooken care it can lead to many problems in the future
Reply:Get Ambusal extra strength then take his *** to the dentist 2 get it pulled.

Rotten tooth??
I have a rotten tooth thats causing abcessors on my gums around the area. They come and go but I wanted to know should I get it pulled or root canal. The tooth is next to last on my bottom row of my mouth. This started about 6-7 months ago. When I first went to the dentists they told me a root canal was the best option.
But I have a gripe with dentists working in my mouth for too long. I went once about a year ago and had a wisdom pulled and a couple of fillings and less than 3 mos. later I needed a root canal. I think that they might have skipped over the tooth then. But I really don't want the root canal but I really need the tooth out. HELP PLZ!
Rotten tooth??
i have same thing as u and my tooth chipped half off and im in alot of pain and on some pain meds you will hae to get it taken out unless u want to spend over 1800 bucks on one tooh i still need a crown on my other root canacl. my tooth is VERY rotten and i can see down in side and fit my tounge in it it is my last molar too and im pissed off. so im going to get it ripped out with in a month or so i have had i this way for 9 months now so im def in need of it i was working on my other root canal and 6 other caivites bfore that one and now it is bad. get into dentist asap, u will have to get root canal sorry to say, i know alot about teeth sincei have been to dentist more than anyone i know lol so that or get it out hun
Reply:if you want to keep the tooth you need a root canal, if you just want to get rid of the tooth then have it pulled, the root canal will be expensive but will save the tooth.
Reply:listen to whatever your dentist tells you
Reply:Having dental problems myself i'll tell you pulling it only takes a few minutes but then you'll have a space and all your teeth will shift around unless u replace the tooth.Root canals aren't foolproof but can be done in about an hour.If u have an abcess now u need to be on anti-biotics to clear up the infection before anythings done in ur mouth. If u have dental insurance and really want it pulled make sure to get a bridge or something placed were the removed tooth was.Good luck cause abcess's hurt like heck.
Reply:I've had three root canals, and one of those teeth needed removing later since (and they may not tell you this) the area around the root is still susceptible to decay and then it's a matter of "diminishing returns" on how many root canals you're going to have done on the same tooth. That being said, I'm always in favor of a root canal first, and later, if necessary, it can be pulled. I just don't like a lot of artificial teeth in my mouth, even though some of the tooth is going to be artificial after the root canal anyway. I had my first root canal back in "the dark ages" (1970 to be more specific), and it did well till somewhere in the early 1980's, wherein a second one was done on that tooth, and then in the 1990's, I believe, the tooth was finally removed. I've had a second tooth get a root canal, seems not too many years ago, and it's doing fine. But, I can say, from your description of your problem, if you don't make some decision and get something done ASAP, you're going to need much more than a root canal or tooth extraction. God Bless you.
Reply:If I am in your shoes I will follow your dentist advice. ROOT CANAL. The tooth is dead but at least you will still have your own tooth in place. Do not worry about long procedure. these days root canal treatment can be done in one appointment (1-11/2 hour). Most dentist uses rotary instruments now compared to manual reamers and files then.
Hope this help you decide. goodluck

Question Details: I don,t mean the majority of the brits, yanks, aussie...because the minory have great bodys, and very sexy, mmmmmm you go girl, get yourself a honky, tonky men from the Island.
Would you like today to have to speak German or the corruption language, and my teeth are all rotten?
Buddy,
I am a born German, and I think I speak for all Germans when I say: There is definitely NOT just a MINORITY of Brits (girls aged 16-35) with amazing, sexy, gorgeous bodies.
I think (the) God(desses) made these people to bring joy, pleasure (and sweet seduction every couple of steps we take) to us all. Rrrrrahrrrwl!
(and I don't care with what accent they speak, as long as it's not American, which is just not as seductive for me)
Reply:Heck, I already do and I'm a Yank!
Reply:huh?
Reply:Sorry pal, neither your question or the details make sense. Can't even begin to try to answer.
Reply:Actually everybody here (near Berlin, Germany) speaks German anyway. So I'll prefer to keep my mother tongue and let you have the rotten teeth.
Plant question

Which is more painful for a very rotten tooth?
Root Canal Surgery or Extraction of the tooth? I'm a 15 year old male and its one of my adult teeth ( i have no baby teeth left). It is completely rotten on the inside and i have attempted to have root canal, but have to stop it during because of the pain. Is it better in the long run for me to have it extracted? Will that hurt more or less?
Which is more painful for a very rotten tooth?
As a dentist, if you haven't had other teeth removed, its ok to lose one tooth.
I'd most likely extract it.Be done with it
Reply:extractions best
Reply:I think that it's probably for the best to have it removed,
I'm sure that you're dentist will give you all the details of it.
Thank you,
And I hope you feel better soon.
Reply:root canal is way more painful. best really to just lose the tooth.
Reply:Some people need to have injections for a root canal - did your dentist not offer this?
My dentist reckons that I'm his only patient who opts to have it done without anaesthetic.
Reply:Have the tooth removed and then speak to your dentist about what to have it filled with like a bridge or an implant.
I have just left mine as a gap because it is on the left hand side of my mouth and doesn't affect eating.
I had mine taken out because it was a baby tooth that had no adult tooth underneath and it was getting gradually more rotten because it was so weak.
Plus once you have a horrible experience at the dentist it will make you want to look after your teeth so you never have to go through it again.
Reply:Find another dentist, no treatment should be painful these days. It's always best to keep your own teeth as long as possible. Good luck.
Reply:root canals shouldnt be painful, mine wasnt, but they do weaken the tooth, they cost alot and then a crown cost lots of $,and in the end I had to have the tooth pulled anyway it cost 50$,I was over it in less than a week, with just a few pain pills. If I had known I would have had it pulled to start with!
Reply:Extraction can be painful, but you can have pain killer, and it's over and done with in half hour, where as root canal takes weeks of visits, which are painful, but at 15 years old it will look silly having a tooth missing so if you have an extraction you will need a bridge, which is a false tooth fixed to the teeth either side of the one taken out or a tooth with a screw thread that is screwed into you jaw bone. not good either way but because of your age i would say have the canal work done, long term it looks better to save your real teeth. good luck, it always seems worst than it is, you'll be ok
Reply:Root canal is the best. It doesn't hurt at all, they give you anesthetic. If you feel pain let the dentist know and he will fix you up. When it's done, it's like a permanent tooth, brush and floss like normal.
Reply:I really cannot understand why root canal treatment hurt you. Surely the dentist offered you a numbing injection?
At your age I'd urge you to save your tooth if at all possible. It will look totally natural, last for years and you'll have no gaps.
Reply:Saving your natural teeth is the very best option, if possible.
You're too young for loosing a tooth. Don't have it extracted!!
Have a look at:
www.webmd.com/oral-health/dental-root-...
Reply:There is no substitute for your own natural teeth and a dentist will do what ever he/she can to try and save a tooth.
Root treatment is usually a last resort and yes it can be painful during and after.
Normally during the root treatment if a patient is experiencing pain, the dentist injects a local anaesthetic directly into the tooth, this can be fairly unpleasant but the sensation only lasts for a few seconds and help's to numb the inside of the tooth so the dentist is able to carry out the procedure.
I have been a Registered Dental Nurse for more years than i care to remember and assist my dentist with root treatment on a daily basis and can count on one hand the number of people who have been unable to carry on with their root treatment due to the pain factor and have opted to have the tooth extracted.
If you really feel that root treatment is not for you explain your concerns to your dentist and if he/she is in agreement with you, you can ask for the tooth to be removed.
Reply:save your tooth if you have a choice, therefore go for a root canal surgery. anyways they are going to use a local anethesic
Reply:Get it extracted nothing is worse pain than root canal I will never go through that again. It's horrific. GET IT PULLED!!

Can wisdom teeth be black/grey colour coming through, is it because its rotten?
My last wisdom tooth come through has been agony for the last few days, I am making an emergency appointment tomorrow. The pain is radiating all round my mouth and the lower part of my gums are very red. I can see the top part of the tooth and it looks grey/black - does this mean its rotten? Its still firmly sitting in my swollen gum! Thanks
Can wisdom teeth be black/grey colour coming through, is it because its rotten?
Unfortunately it does sound like the tooth is probably decayed if it's grey/black in colour. I think it's fairly common with wisdom teeth for them to become decayed while they are still only partially erupted, and there's not much you can do to stop it from happening really.
Get that appointment as soon as possible so that you won't be in pain over Christmas, in the meantime salt water rinses (although disgusting) might help with the inflammation of the gum, and you can always try clove oil/bonjela as well. Hope you feel better soon!!
Reply:The pain is radiating because all teeth share a common big trunk of nerve called the trigeminal nerve (5th cranial nerve). The pain you are experiencing is called reffered pain.
That is an early sign that your tooth must be rotten. Worse, the adjacent tooth might be affected also, especially if the impaction approximates the tooth beside it.
The tooth is firm because sometimes a tooth can be ankylosed to the bone.
Hope this helps.
Reply:It sounds very likely you will lose it . I had the same problem.
