Help, My son has a rotten tooth!?

My son said his mouth was hurting so I looked at his teeth and discovered half of one of his teeth are gone and the remaining is rotting. I make him take care of his teeth so I am in shock. I don't have any insurance on him untill Oct. I want to him to see a doctor but, I can't afford a big dentist bill. Can it wait until the insurance starts, what will happen if I wait? No sarcastic answers please. Only answer if you know what you are talking about.

It is most likely a baby tooth, based on your description and your son's age. October 1 is right around the corner. I bet that so long as he doesn't bite on that tooth, it doesn't hurt him at all and you can wait a couple more weeks. He might even get the tooth out by then!





If he says that it hurts without any provocation, it's up to you and your son whether you wait or not. As CCTCC says, it would be a fairly inexpensive visit if your description is what we think it is.

Reply:They have this temporary filling stuff I think you can get it at any drug store. That might seal it long enough to prevent much pain until next month
Reply:Is it at the top or bottom? Is the tooth loose? When is the tooth hurting him? Eating, sleeping etc?
Reply:can you check with your state Medicaid office? Try going to the Health Department or a Family and Children's office. You could try to apply for insurance through the state. It will be based on your income and how many in your household. If you have to make an emergency dental appointment, Medicaid will back pay up to 3 months. If not I would still take him to the dentist. I am sure it has to be very painful for him and you could run the risk of him getting an infection. I am sure the dental office can work out some kind of payment plan. Good Luck!
Reply:I understand and I've been there. When my daughter was 3 I took her for a dental check up. She had 3 cavities. Most dental ins pays very little. Even with our ins we would have had to pay $300 so I got Medicaid just for that.. Now she is 7 and we went back on Medicaid. She has 4 silver caps. She brushes her teeth twice a day does not drink soda, very little juice and sweets. She just has bad teeth. Try to get Medicaid and good luck.
Reply:get u some clover {any kind} boil it in water, use like a mouth wash/or let clover lay on tooth, remove when pain stops.or get him a hot bottle of water, like in a 20 oz. bottle,or hot rag works,since medicine works as well as infection medicine,take as says on bottle pain try :try adult sleepn pill with pain releiver, one every 6 to 8 hours,if it has alot of milagrams brake it in half,
Reply:Take him to the dentist. He can do a problem focused exam. If it's a baby tooth, he could probably remove it. It shouldn't be too expensive.





If he wasn't in pain, it would probably be okay to wait. Since he is, you really should take him. It could get worse (infected) or keep him from going to school from the pain.

he must have been taking his teeth for walks on a leash, feeding them, and teaching them tricks like rolling over and playing dead, because he certainly wasn't cleaning up after them! way to make him take care of his teeth. it's a shame, this could have been a lot cheaper with some toothpaste and a little direct supervision. of course you're probably shocked because you might actually be realizing that children are people you have to take care of constantly, not intermittently. i hope it's expensive so you remember this lesson for a long time.
