Rotten tooth??

I have a rotten tooth thats causing abcessors on my gums around the area. They come and go but I wanted to know should I get it pulled or root canal. The tooth is next to last on my bottom row of my mouth. This started about 6-7 months ago. When I first went to the dentists they told me a root canal was the best option.

But I have a gripe with dentists working in my mouth for too long. I went once about a year ago and had a wisdom pulled and a couple of fillings and less than 3 mos. later I needed a root canal. I think that they might have skipped over the tooth then. But I really don't want the root canal but I really need the tooth out. HELP PLZ!

Rotten tooth??
i have same thing as u and my tooth chipped half off and im in alot of pain and on some pain meds you will hae to get it taken out unless u want to spend over 1800 bucks on one tooh i still need a crown on my other root canacl. my tooth is VERY rotten and i can see down in side and fit my tounge in it it is my last molar too and im pissed off. so im going to get it ripped out with in a month or so i have had i this way for 9 months now so im def in need of it i was working on my other root canal and 6 other caivites bfore that one and now it is bad. get into dentist asap, u will have to get root canal sorry to say, i know alot about teeth sincei have been to dentist more than anyone i know lol so that or get it out hun
Reply:if you want to keep the tooth you need a root canal, if you just want to get rid of the tooth then have it pulled, the root canal will be expensive but will save the tooth.
Reply:listen to whatever your dentist tells you
Reply:Having dental problems myself i'll tell you pulling it only takes a few minutes but then you'll have a space and all your teeth will shift around unless u replace the tooth.Root canals aren't foolproof but can be done in about an hour.If u have an abcess now u need to be on anti-biotics to clear up the infection before anythings done in ur mouth. If u have dental insurance and really want it pulled make sure to get a bridge or something placed were the removed tooth was.Good luck cause abcess's hurt like heck.
Reply:I've had three root canals, and one of those teeth needed removing later since (and they may not tell you this) the area around the root is still susceptible to decay and then it's a matter of "diminishing returns" on how many root canals you're going to have done on the same tooth. That being said, I'm always in favor of a root canal first, and later, if necessary, it can be pulled. I just don't like a lot of artificial teeth in my mouth, even though some of the tooth is going to be artificial after the root canal anyway. I had my first root canal back in "the dark ages" (1970 to be more specific), and it did well till somewhere in the early 1980's, wherein a second one was done on that tooth, and then in the 1990's, I believe, the tooth was finally removed. I've had a second tooth get a root canal, seems not too many years ago, and it's doing fine. But, I can say, from your description of your problem, if you don't make some decision and get something done ASAP, you're going to need much more than a root canal or tooth extraction. God Bless you.
Reply:If I am in your shoes I will follow your dentist advice. ROOT CANAL. The tooth is dead but at least you will still have your own tooth in place. Do not worry about long procedure. these days root canal treatment can be done in one appointment (1-11/2 hour). Most dentist uses rotary instruments now compared to manual reamers and files then.

Hope this help you decide. goodluck
